Oregon County Looking to Pay Position to Use Twitter and Facebook

A county in the state of Oregon is hiring someone to tweet and use Facebook all day. The official title of the position is going to be Multnomah County Social Media Coordinator, and the position will pay a whopping salary of between $60,000 and $70,000 annually. That is a big chunk of money, and in order to hire on the modern position, the county is eliminating a couple of other positions. The decision is getting mixed results from Oregon residents, some of which think it is a great understanding, and some of which feel that nobody should be paid that much to “play” on the internet.

The request for the spot states that, “Multnomah County is seeking a motivated and experienced communicator, with a passion for writing, blogging, and social media in a fast-paced environment. The successful candidate will have PR and media experience, the ability to jump between creative and analytical skills, solid verbal and written communication expertise, and a marketing perspective. If you think strategically and are skilled at 21st century media technology, this might be the position for you.”

It’s an interesting Travel by the county, and could be one that brings a lot of benefits along with it. It is part of a new wave of media relations that is trying to take full advantage of social networks on the internet, and in this instance, the county wants to use Twitter, Facebook, social blogs, and various other entities in order to spread the word about their county. It seems like a good way to let people know what the county is doing, when events are coming up, and exactly where the tax dollars of citizens are being spent. Though it may not be a position that is widely accepted as being beneficial at first, this could really be a step into the next wave of media for which Oregon could set the Bar.

There are a lot of benefits associated with this position, in addition to the great salary, and they include health care, paid leave, retirement, flexible work schedules, and even free buss passes. It could be a great opportunity for an internet savvy individual, or someone that has been looking to really branch out in the field of internet media.
