Circuit City has them on sale for $ 299 and I think I'm going to buy one for my friend, but I tried reviews to be found and could not find. The laptop has 1GB RAM and a 80GB hard drive. And yes, the once popular Vista. (I'm a fan of Windows, but its purpose is not mac ideal)
Ah, well! 1GB ram is the minimum needed for Vista. Ask them how much memory the laptop will accept. If you can not do now, look into getting minimum 2 GB of memory. Circuit City also questions about the disks to restore. a 80GB hard drive is quite small. You can choose a larger and faster hard drive off of Newegg.com. If you drive a to recover, it is easy enough in a new hard drive and reinstall Vista. If they have saved "" restore the disk, you Circuit City "Fire Dogs" to restore a disk to you. (Always essential to restore a disk!) So, to answer your question, it is not a "good" notebook. But it is not a "bad" notebook. It is somewhere in between, maybe an "OK" or "reasonable" notebook. It is cheap and leaves much of the promise to his costs. I think it would be good for homework and surfing the Internet, but video games (especially high-end games) will strain the resources. Before you buy, talk to him and see if he wants a higher end model. (I know, you probably want it a surprise.) See if he has some money put away for a laptop. Ya'll would do much better to buy a higher end model. (Believe me, if he knows what he wants and he has his heart set on certain technical details, not the wrong things.) Good luck!
