Tips for Marketing Your Small Business in a Recession
|
During the time of a recession, Small Business owners often Wonder how to form their names stand out in the marketplace. It can be tough to be a small business owner among all of the broad businesses in your area. However, do not despair. There are ways to market yourself and your business while competitors are cutting back on marketing, or dropping it altogether.
One of the most vital ways to do this is to be careful about where you invest your hard-earned money. It can be tempting to increase marketing costs while other companies are decreasing them. However, it is not worth spending more money just to get your name out there. Marketing your minute business in a recession: Free advertising How can you advertise your small business for absolutely no money at all? There are several ways, and they both involve utilization of the Internet. The first is to start a weblog for your business, in which you would regularly post company updates. Two such blogging websites are Blogspot.com and WordPress.com. The other strategy is to create a Facebook page for your small business. I’m not talking about a regular profile where you can add and accept friend requests, but a business page on Facebook. It’s free and you can get the word out about your business by getting Facebook users to become a fan of your business. They would also be able to view company updates here. Marketing your small business in a recession: Build your own website By designing your own website, you can almost chop advertising costs altogether. There are many design programs that you can download from the internet for free, and you can easily learn how to use them yourself. One such program is BlueVoda Website Builder. It is free to download and you can have it on the internet by “tomorrow morning”. Another free marketing technique is by word-of-mouth referrals or talking to people you know. Let them know that you are now online. Send your website’s URL to friends and family and ask them to share it with their friends. If there is a shopping center on your website, it will be much more convenient for shoppers to place an order with your company. Marketing your small business in a recession: Offer incentives There is a marketing approach that is becoming very popular – word of mouth. Offer incentives to friends and family for referring your services to people they know, and so on. Design your own business cards (for a very low cost) and hand them out. Ask these people to write their names on the cards so, when the cards come back with a customer, they will be awarded. Offer a tiny cash prize or gift certificate to the person who refers the most customers. After spending little or no money, you should have gained more business and, hopefully, long-term clients. During a recession, and even when times are not so tough, small businesses do not have to slit relieve on marketing to save money. It can be done with spending almost none at all! |
